About Me

There are two things of great importance in my life, family and the arts. I've been happily married for around a decade to my wife Kelly, who I met at a high school dance. Kelly is also a graduate of Pittsburg State University. Her favorite pastime is photography, and she took some of the pictures used for the creation of this site. After visiting the Boise area in 1998, we decided to move from our native Kansas. Boise is a nice town, with skiing in the winter and rafting in the summer.

Ceramics

Hand building a ceramic piece in 1995 I've been involved in the creation of ceramics since 1989. My academic background includes ceramics courses at high school, community college, and university levels. Though my work varies in form, it is best characterized as non-functional, heavily textured, and large in size. In more recent years, I've evolved from conventional forms to free forms that are almost sculptural. Rarely throwing on the wheel, I prefer to hand build my work (as pictured). In the future I hope to create some new pieces, including some multilevel fountains.

Music

Playing my 12 string acoustic guitar in 1999 I've been playing guitars and writing music since 1990. My primary instrument is the electric bass guitar, though I also plays some less common instruments including the rubber-stringed Ashbory Bass and a custom modified "E-A-D-G" 12 string Seagull acoustic guitar (pictured at right). My playing style is unusual to say the least, with a variety of right hand techniques, sometimes clobbering the strings while creating a click with every note hit, other times strumming chords with my finger nails. The end result is music with sometimes two or three bass parts that sounds like it has a simple guitar part with a melodic bass line underneath.
