Boise, ID - November 20, 2000 - RidgeRun, Inc., the leader in embedded Linux software for products employing digital signal processing (DSP) components, announced today two appointments to strengthen the senior management of the company.
Rudy Prince has been appointed CEO and Chairman of the Board. Mr. Prince will be overseeing the company's strategy, products, marketing focus and pursuit of key strategic and financial partners. He brings a wealth of business and management experience to the new start-up venture.
"Rudy's strong Internet and embedded systems experience as well as his tenacious leadership style will help position RidgeRun as the clear leader in DSP-based solutions for the embedded Linux market," said Pat Sewall, President and Chief Technology Officer of RidgeRun, Inc. "His background in Internet and mobile communications, and imaging and voice processing, are ideal for the new generation of Internet appliances."
"RidgeRun recognized the power of DSPs in future Internet appliances and is the only embedded Linux company focused solely on DSP environments," said Rudy Prince, newly appointed CEO. "DSPs are at the heart of the explosive markets for mobile phones, digital cameras, and a wide range of wireless, multimedia and broadband PDAs and gateways. With our strategic relationship with Texas Instruments, solidified by TI's recent investment in RidgeRun, we are able to focus our resources on delivering the leading Linux platform for TI's DSP components."
Prior to RidgeRun, Prince served 12 years as President and CEO of eFax.com, formerly JetFax, where he led outsourced embedded controller and software developments of multifunction printers for Hewlett-Packard, Minolta, Samsung, Okidata and Xerox Corporation. Under his tutelage, the company transitioned its business to the Internet with the launch of the largest Internet fax-to-email service. Prince also served in a variety of sales, marketing and product management roles at IBM, Entropic Speech, and Veritas DGC. Prince graduated with highest honors with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
In addition to Prince's appointment, Rick Seger has been appointed Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Seger is responsible for RidgeRun's worldwide sales and partnering efforts to a wide range of manufacturers, developers and application solutions providers for Internet appliances.
Seger's experience includes 13 years at Motorola where he was Vice President of Sales for the Consumer Systems Group. After Motorola, Rick joined Questra Consulting where he initiated and managed relationships for embedded design services, particularly in the areas of multimedia imaging and Internet connectivity. Mr. Seger holds a BS in Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas.
"Rick clearly knows the embedded space and is quickly building an experienced channel for delivering Linux solutions to our partners," said Rudy Prince, newly appointed CEO. "We're both excited about the enormous opportunity and the impact we will make on the quickly emerging Internet appliance market."
Two additional promotions at the company include Dan George to the position of Vice President Engineering, Platforms and Phil Verghese to Vice President Engineering, Appliances. Dan George joined the company with 15 years of embedded software experience, most recently at Hewlett Packard where he was chief architect for system architecture for the simultaneous development of four new laser imaging products. Phil Verghese worked 10 years at Hewlett Packard where he was most recently the principal software architect for the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet Core Software Lab.
Both George and Verghese continue to report to Pat Sewall, President and CTO. Also a founder and board member, Sewall led Hewlett-Packard's business relationships for Linux client and server based printing with 22 years of software development experience.
